Frederick Martinez, retired correctional sergeant

Frederick Martinez, Jr., a retired correctional sergeant, passed away July 3, 2025. Services will be held July 31 (details below).

Martinez began his career with the department in January 1997.

After graduating from the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he was assigned as an officer at Salinas Valley State Prison.

In November 2002, Martinez transferred to the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi where he worked until June 2005 when he transferred to the Kern Valley State Prison.

A little more than a year later, he promoted to sergeant and reported to North Kern State Prison (NKSP), where he remained until retiring in August 2013.

“Frederick was highly respected by his peers and a well-loved member of the NKSP family. At this time of mourning, please keep the Martinez family in your thoughts and prayers,” according to the prison.

Services will be held July 31.

• Viewing: 9 to 10 a.m. followed by mass from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery and Funeral Center, 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento.
• Burial: 12:30 p.m. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.
