CDCR and city officials attended the grand opening of the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility in Fresno.
The new facility was activated Aug. 4.
Jorge Moreno, with Community Reentry Programs for the CDCR Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP), said these facilities are vital for helping people reenter society.
“(It’s) like a phase down from the institutions,” Moreno said. “(They) can decompress from the pressures and politics of prison and start acclimating back into the community.”

Jim Callaghan, president and CEO of TURN Behavioral Health Services, welcomed state and city officials to the grand opening.
“This is another example of a private and public benefit coming together for communities. It’s just been a great partnership between CDCR, DRP, and TURN Behavioral Health Services.”
He said the goal is to get participants back into the community and reengaged.
Moreno explained by providing rehabilitative and reentry tools to people nearing parole, it helps overall public safety while reducing recidivism.
Sydney Tanimoto, with DRP Program Operations, agrees.
“Let this day remind us rehabilitation is not just an idea, it’s a practice,” she said. “With visionary community reentry programs like this, California is leading the way forward in creating a new model for public safety.”
