Willie James Valentine, a retired correctional lieutenant, passed away Sept. 28, 2025. He worked for the department for 29 years before retiring in 2005. Services will be held Oct. 31.

Valentine began his career at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco in June 1976. He then transferred to California Institution for Men in Chino in January 1978. Valentine then promoted to sergeant in February 1984.
In March 1988, he promoted to lieutenant in March, transferring back to Norco.
A year later, Valentine returned to Chino, where he remained until retiring in 2005 after 29 years of service.
“Correctional Lt. W. Valentine will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing and working side by side with him. Our sincerest condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” according to the institution.
Services will be held at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 31 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., in Riverside.
