Bruce Hensley, a retired correctional lieutenant, passed away Oct. 15, 2025. He worked for the department for nearly 30 years.

Hensley began his career with the department at California Correctional Center in Susanville in 1966, just a few years after it was activated. In 1970, he transferred to California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.
Then, in July 1974, he was appointed correctional program supervisor II (later reallocated to correctional sergeant) at California Men’s Colony at San Luis Obispo. He then promoted to lieutenant in April 1978 and retired from the institution in April 1995.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Lt. Hensley’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” according to the institution.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 501 Fair Oaks Ave., Arroyo Grande.
