Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) is investigating an attack on four correctional officers that occurred Friday afternoon.
On Jan. 23, at approximately 2:21 p.m., SVSP staff were conducting a controlled cell entry when the incarcerated person armed himself with a metal weapon and attacked staff as they entered the cell.
Four correctional officers were injured during the incident and transported to an outside medical facility for treatment. The injuries were not life-threatening, and all officers are expected to make a full recovery.
Three improvised weapons were recovered at the scene. No incarcerated person was injured.
The incarcerated person was placed in restricted housing pending an investigation by SVSP’s Investigative Services Unit.
