Searches at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) have turned up contraband including cell phones, drugs, and weapons.
SVSP searches were conducted Jan. 30-Feb. 1 with the following results:
- 2 cell phones
- 18 inches of metal removed from a shelf*
- 5 medical-grade syringes
- 3 manufactured weapons
- 20 inches of metal removed*
*Metal was later replaced by maintenance staff.
Searches by K-9 teams were also conducted Jan. 26-27 at Gabilan Conservation Camp and Wasco State Prison-Reception Center, uncovering additional contraband. In those searches, teams found cell phones, tobacco, methamphetamine, and other items. Details of those searches can be found in the earlier contraband story.
