CDCR Academy: Cadets learn essentials before graduating

When the Basic Correctional Officer Academy cadets graduate Friday, they will have undergone rigorous training to learn multiple aspects of their new careers.

The CDCR Academy social media team recently shared photos of Class 3-26A’s 139 cadets during alarm response training and getting familiarized with transportation.

The final weeks of the CDCR Academy bring together the knowledge, skills and abilities our cadets have developed throughout their training.

During reality-based alarm response training, cadets are given a detailed foundation of techniques necessary to respond to emergency situations. Through numerous scenarios, cadets are trained on how to use safe tactics, communicate effectively and demonstrate command presence. They also learn about appropriate force options, protective equipment and report writing to document their actions.

This training prepares cadets to safely and effectively respond to incidents while maintaining the correctional institution’s safety and security.

Transportation is an essential responsibility of a correctional peace officer and one of the career paths CDCR has to offer. Class 3-26A cadets are learning the policies, procedures and expectations for conducting transports related to medical appointments, court appearances, institutional transfers, and parole releases. Every transport requires professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety. Thank you to the staff from the Northern Transportation Hub for sharing their knowledge and experience with our cadets and giving them a firsthand look at the important work involved in transportation.
