Ernest Randall, a retired correctional sergeant, passed away March 2, 2026. He worked for the department for two decades.

Before joining CDCR, Randall served in the US Army for 20 years. He began his career with the department as a cadet in May 1994. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported to the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad.
Through dedication and hard work, he promoted to the rank of correctional sergeant in May 2000. He remained at the institution in this role until retiring in August 2013.
“Randall earned the respect of his peers and supervisors alike. He was known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and leadership. Many who worked alongside him respected him not only as a supervisor but also valued him as a friend,” according to the institution. “His dedication to the department and willingness to support those around him left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him. We extend our most sincere condolences to Sgt. Ernest Randall’s family, loved ones, and friends. He will be greatly missed.”
