Nereo Bonilla Jr., a retired correctional officer, has passed away, according to Pleasant Valley State Prison. A date of passing was not provided but services will be held March 30 in Coalinga.

Bonilla began his career in April 1994 as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy. After graduating in May, he reported to California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi.
In August 1998, he transferred to Pleasant Valley State Prison, where he remained until he retired in December 2018.
“Bonilla was a treasured employee and friend to many at Pleasant Valley State Prison and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers,” according to the institution. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Mr. Bonilla’s family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time.”
Services will be held at 11 a.m., March 30, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 637 Sunset St., Coalinga. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge, 200 Cambridge Ave., Coalinga.
