WSP‑RC recruiters attend middle school career fairs

Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) attended college and career fairs at two middle schools in Wasco.

The late February and early March events allowed representatives from the institution to meet with students to share information about career opportunities within CDCR. Recruiters also highlighted the variety of professional paths available in public service.

Staff members said it was an honor to support the young people of Wasco and to give back to the community they work in and serve every day. Staff provided students with exposure to real world career options. The recruiters said it was especially meaningful because it is a small and often underrepresented area, where such opportunities can broaden perspectives and inspire future goals.

The events allowed students to ask questions and learn about different roles within the institution. In addition to law enforcement careers, they also learned about other areas such as medical and food services. After visiting the various booths, students were able to consider potential career paths they may not have previously explored or considered, in a town where a large amount of their parents work in agriculture and food harvesting.

WSP-RC staff said look forward to continuing their partnership with local schools and supporting the development of the next generation of workers.
