MCSP hosts sergeant promotion ceremony

Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) hosted a correctional sergeant promotion ceremony, honoring the dedication and professional achievements of custody staff members.

The March 13 ceremony, with over 30 family and friends in attendance, celebrated the promotion of nine sergeants. Leadership recognized their commitment to public service, leadership, and the CDCR’s mission.

The newly promoted sergeants are:

  • Elenalisette Canlea
  • David Conerly
  • William Johnson
  • Noah Melrose
  • Emily Meza
  • Todd Phillips
  • Steve Reynolds
  • Chad Tyus
  • Kevin Wallace

Family members, colleagues, and MCSP leadership gathered to commemorate the occasion, reflecting the pride and support shared throughout the institution. The ceremony underscored not only individual achievement but also the collective strength of MCSP’s workforce.

Warden Luis Garnica delivered remarks recognizing the sacrifices made by the promoted staff and their families, emphasizing the dedication required to serve the institution and the department. He highlighted the importance of leadership, integrity, and mentorship. The warden also noted these promotions represent trust placed in each individual to guide others and uphold the highest professional standards.

“The rank of a sergeant is one of the most important positions in our organization,” said Garnica. “As sergeants, your leadership will shape the environment around you, influence the staff you supervise, and ultimately contribute to the safety of MCSP.”

The inaugural promotion ceremony marks a meaningful tradition for MCSP, reinforcing its commitment to recognizing excellence and fostering leadership within its ranks.
