Freddy Contreras, a retired correctional officer, passed away April 19, 2026. He worked for the department for more than two decades. Services will be held May 7-8.
Contreras began his career with the department in 2001 at California Rehabilitation Center at Norco, where he remained until retiring.
“He was a devoted husband and loving father to his two daughters and son, finding his greatest joy in supporting and creating a home filled with love and stability for his family. Freddy also formed strong bonds with his CDCR coworkers, finding a sense of camaraderie and brotherhood,” according to the institution. “His absence leaves a profound void, but his legacy of love and devotion will continue through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Freddy is survived by his wife, two daughters, son and grandson. Though he is no longer with us, his impact will endure. The memory of Freddy Contreras will be deeply cherished, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Contreras family, loved ones, and friends during this time of mourning.”
Funeral services will be held from 5-9 p.m. May 7 at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, Church of our Heritage, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina. Niche-side service will be from 3:30 to 4 p.m. May 8 at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, 21330 Via Verda Drive, Covina.
