Thadd Wittmann, a retired correctional officer, passed away Sept. 23, 2026.
He began his career with the department at Salinas Valley State Prison at Soledad in October 1997. He transferred to California Men’s Colony at San Luis Obispo in July 2004.
In November 2004, Wittmann returned to Salinas Valley where he continued to serve until retiring in December 2016.
“Wittmann will be greatly missed by all who knew and worked alongside him. He will be remembered as a great partner and colleague who could always be counted on to have your back,” according to the institution. “Our deepest condolences are extended to Wittmann’s family, friends and former colleagues.”
Services will be private and limited to close family and friends. The family respectfully requests privacy during this difficult time.
