Valley State Prison in Chowchilla recently hosted a health and wellness fair. The event brought together 13 information booths designed to promote education, awareness and meaningful engagement.

- Mental Health, Dental Health and Healthcare Grievances
- Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment (ISUDT)
- Health Information Management
- Public Health
- Infection Control
- 7362 processes
- Medication Management
- Canine program
- Nursing Lead Therapeutic Groups (NLTG)
- Nutrition and Weight Station
- and Hands-Only CPR.
Staff praised the fair as an effective platform for community health education. Many booths incorporated videos and vibrant visuals to increase engagement and improve understanding. Incarcerated persons said the information was highly useful, especially the practical, hands-on demonstrations provided throughout the event.
Highlights included step-by-step guidance on completing healthcare forms, interpreting nutrition labels and techniques for practicing proper oral hygiene.
Participants also received essential training on administering Narcan and learned how effective chest compressions during CPR can save a life.
The fair also addressed common health concerns within the population, such as communicable infections, lice and scabies.
Through its combination of clear instruction, interactive learning, and upbeat music, the health and wellness fair created a supportive and welcoming environment. According to organizers, this was a successful and well-received event for all attendees.
