Mental health staff at Calipatria State Prison hosted a game for the population as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
The staff and incarcerated peer support specialists held the competition as an adaptation of Family Feud. The event supported ongoing efforts to strengthen connections between the population and mental health services.
While some participants were meeting mental health staff for the first time, others were already familiar with the team.
Regardless of their prior experience, all participants were shown how support extends beyond clinical conversations about feelings and challenges. There can also be laughter and enjoyable experiences with people who affirm our common humanity.
“The mental health team extends its appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, including the community resources manager and custody staff. Special thanks go to the Success Stories Program for providing food and beverages for participants following the competition,” said organizers. “The team also recognizes Sgt. R. Glaze of the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad for assisting with game logistics and supporting the event from afar.”
