Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) in Chowchilla held its annual college graduation for 59 earning degrees.
The Sept. 30 graduation celebrated those earning degrees from Merced College, Coastline College, Feather River College and Lassen College.

Of the graduates, four received special recognition by Merced College Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society for receiving a scholarship for academic and/or community service.
One graduate was recognized as Outstanding English Major while three received Presidential medals for outstanding academic achievement.
Family and friends from the outside joined the graduates to help celebrate and honor them on their special day. For those unable to attend, the ceremony was also available via livestream.
Otilia Pineda, a Merced College graduate, said this was a special moment for her.
“I have never attended a graduation,” she explained. “It marks a milestone in my life.”
She said she’s living a life of amends today. Pineda is making amends to herself as well as those she’s harmed. Her biggest motivation was her son.
“I owe it to my son for the time I have spent away from him,” she said. “What I want him to understand is … no matter the mistake, you’re not defined by your past or your past mistakes. You can always change the narrative to your life.”
