Updated guidance for work locations

This memorandum updates facial covering recommendations at California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS) non-institutional work locations. The recommendations outlined herein supersede the March 3, 2022 memorandum entitled, “Updated COVID-19 Facial Covering Guidance for Non-Institutional Work Locations.”

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced new facial covering guidance for the California public.

(Read the new CDPH masking guidance.)

Effective April 3, 2023, for general community settings, including CDCR/CCHCS non- institutional work locations, CDPH will continue to recommend all individuals wear a facial covering indoors irrespective of vaccination status. Facial coverings will continue to be required if working in an area of active outbreak and will revert to recommended when the outbreak is closed.

Employees experiencing COVID-19 signs and symptoms should not come onsite to any CDCR/CCHCS location. Employees who had a significant exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID- 19 may come onsite provided they are not experiencing any symptoms and shall wear a procedure or higher level of filtration mask for 10 days from the date of last exposure. Individuals entering CDCR/CCHCS institutional/facility grounds shall follow the institutional/facility facial covering guidance.

Local conditions may warrant stricter facial covering requirements based on a combination of factors. Employees working in a county where the local health jurisdiction issues additional public health guidelines tailored for their communities should follow the stricter of the facial covering requirements.

This guidance will be regularly reviewed and revised as necessary based on current circumstances within CDCR/CCHCS and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and CDPH.
