VSP raises $16k for Special Olympics Polar Plunge

Collaborating with the VSP population, the team raised over $16,000 for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge.

Valley State Prison’s (VSP) participation in the Special Olympics Northern California Polar Plunge was remarkable, raising $16,407. With a spirit of unity between custody and the incarcerated population, they raised more than any of the other teams. This outstanding effort earned VSP the prestigious Polar Plunge Trophy as the top Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) team, symbolizing their dedication and commitment to the cause.

The success of this endeavor speaks volumes about the power of coming together for a shared purpose. Despite their circumstances, the incarcerated individuals at VSP demonstrated compassion and generosity, showing positive change and impact are possible.

The funds raised from the Polar Plunge will go a long way in supporting the programs offered by Special Olympics, including sports, health, education, and athlete leadership initiatives.

These programs play a crucial role in empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, enriching their lives and fostering inclusivity within our communities.

Community Resource Manager (A) Lt. T. Costa expressed profound gratitude for the impact of the VSP Special Olympics Polar Plunge event.

“Witnessing the collective effort and genuine camaraderie between custody staff and our incarcerated population is great. Together, we’ve raised crucial funds and ignited a spark of unity,” Costa said. “This event reminds us that no matter our circumstances, we have the power to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”
