Judy McGuire, retired lieutenant, passes

Judy McGuire, a retired correctional lieutenant, passed away July 14, 2024. She worked for CDCR for 30 years before retiring in 2023.

She began her career with the department as a cadet at the Basic Correctional Officer Academy in April 1993.

After graduating, she reported to California Correctional Institution in May 1993.

In December 1995, she transferred to High Desert State Prison. Five years later, she promoted to sergeant. In August 2011, she transferred to California State Prison, Sacramento. Then, in July 2016, she promoted to lieutenant.

After a long CDCR career, she retired in July 2023.

“Lt. McGuire was not only a pillar of strength for this institution but also a cherished mentor and friend to many of those who worked around her,” according to a statement issued by California State Prison, Sacramento. “She was well respected by her peers, subordinates, supervisors, and managers. Her dedication to the well-being of staff was unwavering, leaving an incredible mark on this institution. She will be greatly missed as her legacy will forever remain in our hearts. Our sincere condolences are extended to the McGuire family, as well as her CDCR family during this difficult time.”

There will be no public services held for as the family wishes to keep services private.
