Thanks to community partnerships and collaboration, Mule Creek State Prison now offers a chance to earn a seminary degree.
The Community Resources Manager’s office collaborated with Paid in Full California and SUM Bible College to offer a seminary bachelor’s degree program.
The college originally got its start as the School of Urban Missions (SUM). Over time, the accredited school renamed itself SUM Bible College and Theological Seminary.
The free-of-charge seminary program at Mule Creek is the first of its kind in the California prison system.
“Mule Creek State Prison is very proud to be the institution they chose to pilot the program,” according to organizers.
To mark the occasion, Mule Creek hosted its first-ever motorcycle show and barbecue for the population housed on Facilities D and E.
The event offered the opportunity to showcase the organization and its partners to the population.
By the numbers:
- 25 motorcycles parked on the yard
- 2,000 hot dogs prepared
- 60 members of Soldiers of the Cross Motorcycle Ministry
In addition to guest speakers, there were also many representatives from various state agencies visiting the institution for this momentous occasion.
