Staff from the Correctional Training Facility at Soledad recently visited the exhibit, Visions of Hope: Art of the Incarcerated. The Marin County Civic Center is showcasing artworks created by individuals housed within CDCR, prominently featuring contributions from incarcerated persons in Soledad.

This multimedia installation began in early September and runs through Oct. 24.

Organized by Life On Art, the group aims to foster a deeper connection between the public and incarcerated artists. They also seek to advocate for criminal justice reforms and the accessibility of the arts for rehabilitation purposes.

Paintings, sculptures, and written works are displayed at the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael. The art was created during workshops held at various correctional facilities, including a four-week workshop at the Correctional Training Facility.

These sessions provided participants with an opportunity to explore personal themes and express themselves through the creation of winged heart sculptures and other artistic pieces.

“The project not only highlights the therapeutic potential of art but also serves as a platform for the incarcerated artists to share their narratives and skills with the broader community,” according to the program facilitator.

The warden and his administrative staff visited the exhibit to witness firsthand the art produced by individuals from the Correctional Training Facility. It was one more way to underscore the institution’s support for rehabilitative and creative programs.

This involvement is part of a broader initiative by Life On Art. They hope to use art as a tool for emotional healing and personal growth among incarcerated individuals.
