One captain and five sergeants were recognized during Kern Valley State Prison’s recent promotion ceremony.
According to organizers, this is the first time the prison held such a promotion ceremony with 30 family members and friends attending.
The ceremony included speeches from the warden, an associate warden and representatives from the California Correctional Supervisors Organization and California Correctional Peace Officers Association.
The prison’s Honor Guard presented the colors while another staff member sang the national anthem.
Staff being recognized during the ceremony invited their family to attend who were then able to pin their uniform, acknowledging their promotion.
After the ceremony, staff and their family celebrated with cake and photos with their family.
