PVSP staff raise funds for family of fallen officer

Staff from Pleasant Valley State Prison raise funds for a fallen officer's family who passed away in April.
Staff from all classifications at PVSP raised funds for a fallen officer's family.

Pleasant Valley State Prison (PVSP) staff held a fundraiser at Coalinga State Hospital to help support the family of recently fallen Officer Christopher Ruiz.

Back the Badge Coalinga, a fundraising group at PVSP, represents the spirit of prison staff.

PVSP staff volunteered their own personal time to run the fundraiser for the family of the fallen officer.

Even retired staff have come out to assist in this endeavor.

“Activities such as these show how much PVSP staff support and care for one another in times of need. The culture of PVSP demonstrates how you are seen and cared for by your coworkers. Everyone is welcomed with a smile and a good morning every day,” according to the fundraising group. “That is what makes Pleasant Valley State Prison truly pleasant.”

PVSP Officer Ruiz retired in February 2025 and passed away April 30.
