Danny Trejo, film producer visit San Quentin

Actor Danny Trejo and producer David Enabnit recently visited San Quentin Rehabilitation Center to gain insight for an upcoming documentary project.

Titled “Trial by Fire,” the film aims to chronicle the inspiring journeys of incarcerated firefighters working to rebuild their lives through rehabilitation and skill development programs.

During their Aug. 5 visit, Trejo, who has a personal history with San Quentin, shared his experiences as a formerly incarcerated person. He also discussed his involvement in early rehabilitation initiatives at San Quentin. Trejo’s participation in programs for incarcerated individuals interested in pursuing careers in firefighting and other trades has profoundly shaped his perspective on second chances and transformation. He also finds time to give back to his community by speaking with incarcerated individuals as well as up-and-coming youth.

Trejo and his team said they admired the innovative initiatives currently underway at the institution.

They were particularly impressed by the progress made in recent years to promote educational services and vocational training. These efforts have significantly improved the prison’s environment and helped change the perspective of incarcerated residents.

Trejo also took a moment to commend Warden Chance Andes and the entire executive team for their dedication and leadership in transforming San Quentin from its notorious past into a model of reform.

“It’s inspiring to see how far San Quentin has come,” Trejo said. “The programs here are making a real difference, giving inmates a chance to turn their lives around.”
