RJ Donovan Correctional Facility staff showed up to climb stairs as part of a challenge to honor first responders who lost their lives during the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Aug. 31 event drew 30 RJ Donovan staff members to support Firefighter Aid. In addition to the stair climb, the incarcerated population also pitched in funds. Together, staff and incarcerated raised $16,300 for the non-profit organization, putting RJ Donovan in first place as the event’s top donor.
The event brings supporters together in remembrance and support of those who gave their all during the attacks.
“Team RJ Donovan is honored to be part of such a memorable event,” according to institution volunteers. “We were honored to meet some who were on site that fateful day and hear their first-hand experience. We also had the honor to meet Fire Department of New York Capt. Al Fuentes, a Sept. 11 survivor. He was presented as the event’s honored guest speaker.”
RJ Donovan staff also carried a photo of fallen Parole Agent Joshua Byrd as a way to honor his memory.
