Correctional Officer Marcus Monzon, who started with the department just last year, passed away Dec. 3, 2025.

He began his career with the department in April 2024 at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt.
After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported to California State Prison-Sacramento (CSP-SAC) in July 2024.
Officer Monzon will be missed by many who knew and worked with him throughout his career, according to the institution.
Monzon was also an avid sports fan as well as an athlete who played for the Sacramento City Grizzlies and Westcoast Lawmen softball teams.
Both organizations posted tributes to the officer on their websites and social media platforms.
The Grizzlies posted this tribute: “It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to one of own Grizz C players. Marcus was an absolutely amazing ball player, an ally to our community, and an all-around cool dude. Taken way too early, he will be missed.”
“(He was a) good friend, coworker, and team player,” wrote a Westcoast Lawmen softball teammate. “Forever a part of the team, always in our hearts.”
Details regarding funeral services are not yet available.
