While returning to California Men’s Colony from a southern California transport, two CDCR transportation officers recently assisted victims in a multi-vehicle crash.
Since emergency medical personnel had not yet arrived at the crash scene, Transportation Officers A. Naranjo and R. Contreras immediately stopped to assist.
Despite heavy 5 p.m. traffic, the officers crossed Highway 101 in Oxnard to use their training to help those involved.
With their departmental first aid kit, they provided basic medical care to the injured motorists. The officers then stayed with the victims, offering reassurance and comfort until emergency responders arrived and took control of the scene.
“Their calm and selfless actions made a real difference that day and are a credit to both the California Men’s Colony and the department,” according to statement from the institution.
The crash occurred Oct. 1 on Highway 101 in Oxnard.
