Mule Creek holds first promotional ceremony

Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) marked a significant milestone by hosting its first promotional ceremony.

The Dec. 30 ceremony honored the dedication and professional achievements of eight custody staff, celebrating the promotion of four sergeants and four lieutenants.

According to prison officials, the ceremony recognized their commitment to public service, leadership, and CDCR’s mission.

Newly promoted sergeants:

  • Alvaro Aguilar Jr.
  • David Martin
  • Zachary Warren
  • Dale Brazil

Newly promoted lieutenants:

  • Brian Louie
  • Efrain Ochoa
  • Mathew Pesce
  • Robert Smalley

Family members, colleagues, and MCSP leadership gathered to commemorate the occasion, reflecting the pride and support shared throughout the institution. The ceremony underscored individual achievement as well as the collective strength of MCSP’s workforce.

Warden Luis Garnica spoke, highlighting the sacrifices made by the promoted staff and their families, emphasizing the dedication required to serve both the institution and the department. He also discussed the importance of leadership, integrity, and mentorship, noting that these promotions represent trust placed in each individual to guide others and uphold the highest professional standards.

“This ceremony is a testament to the hard work, perseverance, and commitment each of you has shown,” Garnica said. “Your leadership plays a critical role in maintaining safety, professionalism, and excellence at Mule Creek State Prison.”

The inaugural promotion ceremony marks a meaningful tradition for MCSP, reinforcing its commitment to recognizing excellence and fostering leadership within its ranks. As the promoted sergeants and lieutenants assume their new roles, they do so with the support of their peers and confidence of MCSP leadership, ready to continue serving with distinction.
