On behalf of the Peace Officer Recruitment Unit, Valley State Prison (VSP) recruiters proudly participated in the annual Support Blue Run.
Held Saturday, Feb. 28, at Woodward Park in Fresno, the event was much more than a run. The Support Blue event brought together thousands of runners, families, and community members. While some directly participated in the run, others gathered to show their appreciation for the law enforcement and first responders while enjoying a variety of community activities.
The Fresno Support Blue Run campaign is designed to promote positive engagement between law enforcement and the community. Organizers say there are several important goals:
- Fostering trust and confidence between officers and the communities they serve
- Providing an opportunity for community members to visibly demonstrate their support for law enforcement
- Educating youth to strengthen relationships, understanding, and communication with officers
- Raising funds to support the Fresno Police and Fire Chaplaincy programs and their volunteers.

The event also provided an excellent platform for VSP staff to engage with the public, share information about career opportunities, and recruit potential applicants interested in joining CDCR. Through meaningful conversations and outreach, VSP recruiter highlighted the rewarding and impactful careers available within the department.
Participation in events like the Support Blue Run reinforces VSP’s commitment to community engagement, public service, and building strong partnerships inside and outside the correctional system.
