54030.9.5 Education Materials

  • In addition to the six cubic feet limitation of authorized property as set forth in this Article, incarcerated persons who are assigned to institution Academic or Vocational Educational Programs shall be allowed to possess State provided textbooks, textbooks or materials provided by a college that are necessary for their assigned college course or college program, or materials necessary to complete their education requirements in their quarters or living area. Incarcerated persons shall sign a CDCRCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Form 193, Trust Account Withdraw Order, for replacement costs prior to being issued any state-provided materials or supplies. The institution shall establish a process for the authorization and tracking of state-provided or college-provided textbooks and materials issued to incarcerated persons for use in their assigned living quarters. Any course textbooks furnished by the State shall be returned to the Education Department at the end of the course or upon the incarcerated person’s transfer or release. State supplies not returned in serviceable condition will result in the Trust Account Withdrawal form being submitted for the replacement value. Return of college textbooks or materials provided by a college shall be determined by the college. The Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs shall be responsible for determination of the replacement value of educational supplies provided by the state.
