California Model taking shape at SATF

Events, activities, and a group of incarcerated volunteers are examples of the California Model in action at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility (SATF).

Gardens and training at SATF

SATF recently reopened the Facility A garden to provide California Model activities for the population.

The SATF California Model team hosted hands-on training provided via Amend and prison staff from Norway.

The team said they enjoyed the training and the two days of instruction and guidance.

SATF’s Warden Bryan Phillips along with members of the California Model team took some time out of their day to celebrate and congratulate some individuals for their recent graduations on Facility F and G.

The bi-annual Facility F Talent Show was also a hit. The event gave the population an opportunity to showcase their artistic skills.

“The enthusiasm from the population and the staff was great to see,” said Warden Phillips.

Lastly, Facility F celebrated their first anniversary of Service Corps. The group was created by Ernest Brooks, who has been housed at SATF since January 2006. Last year, he came up with the idea to put together a voluntary workforce who could be called upon to help set up or clean up after a facility event.

He refers to the members of the Facility F Service Corps as facilitators. Brooks said he’s excited to see the facilitators being called upon to help as needed. The Service Corps members are always busy doing something on Facility F, taking pride in their work.
