Wasco State Prison-Reception Center (WSP-RC) recently marked the first male graduation for the Peer Support Specialist Program (PSSP).
WSP-RC was part of the third cohort for the program established in 2022. The program is part of the third pillar of the California Model, providing support and resources to incarcerated persons via their peers who are provided specialty training.
In mid-November, WSP-RC celebrated the Peer Support Specialist Program graduates. The cohort began with 19 participants, with the same number graduating.
The graduates completed 32.5 hours of orientation, 82 hours of generalist training (core competency), 40 hours of group practicum and 71.5 hours of on-the-job training.
The specialists celebrated their achievements with their family in attendance. Staff served lunch and desserts for the graduates and their families.
