California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi held their first-ever promotional ceremony Feb. 21. Custody and non-custody staff were invited to celebrate their new roles and well-deserved recognition.

The ceremony was opened by CCI’s honor guard presenting colors, followed by a performance of National Anthem sung by Elizabeth Teide of Tehachapi.

Associate Warden Miguel Garcia gave a congratulatory speech while inspiring employees in their new roles.

“By now, you understand that qualities of good leadership do not come easy. While you should feel competent in your duties, you should never be content,” Garcia said. “You should be eager to learn more, experience more, make more mistakes and, as a result, become better.”

CCI Warden Brian Cates thanked staff for their hard work, then talked about what leadership means.

“As new leaders here at CCI, you will face complex issues, make tough decisions and navigate the intricacies that keep this institution running,” he said. “I want to remind you that leadership is not just about giving orders or making decisions; it also includes inspiring, motivating and empowering those around you.”

The promotional employees included correctional sergeants, lieutenants, staff services analysts, plant operations, and correctional classifications. Each employee received a certificate, a CCI challenge coin, and their rank’s insignia provided by the California Correctional Supervisors Organization (CCSO).

CCI is committed to holding these events to share support and appreciation for our great employees. Institutional administrators said they were delighted to share this moment with families, friends and peers.

CCI’s promotional ceremonies will be hosted every quarter, according to organizers.
