During the week of April 6-12, CDCR will join the nation in honoring our victim and survivor community during National Crime Victims Rights’ Week.
This year’s theme, “Kinship: Connecting & Healing,” has been at the heart of the Office of Victim and Survivor Rights & Services (OVSRS) mission for over 30 years.
This theme has led to the development of a wide range of services and programs aimed at helping victims and survivors receive the support they need on their unique healing journeys.
Watch video (story continues below):
OVSRS offers victims with a wide array of support options during post-conviction proceedings, and our team works to ensure that victims’ rights are honored during this stage of the criminal justice process including assisting with restitution collection and supporting victims in parole hearings.
The office also offers victims with a several options to engage in unique restorative justice processes.
Victims may want to meet with the person who harmed them or desire to share their story and volunteer to be a victim impact speaker at a CDCR facility.
OVSRS strives to honor and respect the choices of each unique victim we assist. The office works with our CDCR colleagues to make the incarcerated person/population truly aware of the impact of their actions.
