More than 70 incarcerated students graduated Vaca Valley Adult School programs at CSP-Solano in October 2025.

California State Prison (CSP) Solano celebrated more than 70 graduates earning general educational development (GED) and high school diplomas as well as other certificates.

During the Oct. 29 ceremony, Principal Summer Peterson provided some inspiring words of encouragement to the graduates.

“This feeling of accomplishment, pride, self-efficacy, hold on to it, let it remind you and motivate you of what you’re capable of and what you’re capable of in the future. You’ve already written the story once, now you have the pen in your hand, keep writing,” said Peterson.

Watch the video (story continues below):

Graduates earned 53 GEDs, 11 high school diplomas, six Every Student Succeeds (ESSA) certificates, and three Peer Literacy Mentor Program certificates.

Dwight Archer has been a GED teacher at Solano for six years, with a few students being in his GED class the entire time he has been with Solano.

“They stuck it out (and) were determined to do it. They never gave up,” said Archer. “That really meant a lot, seeing them walk across the stage and receiving their GED diploma. The feeling is indescribable.”

Kobi Benjamin received his GED and is training to become a Peer Literacy Mentor.

“I’m trying to help others accomplish what I’ve accomplished,” said Benjamin. “You never know what you’re able to accomplish unless you try it. You’re the only person who is stopping yourself from continuing to go further.”
