33020.15 Protective Vests

• Protective vests are California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCRCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation or the department) approved items of safety equipment designed and manufactured to resist penetration of bullets, or manufactured knives, ice picks, and other sharp objects. Protective vest wear types include ballistic vests, combination vests, stab resistant vests, and plate carriers with ballistic plates. The individual level and type of protection offered
  by these protective vests is dependent upon the individual vest characteristics.

• For CDCRCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation peace officer employees, the ability to wear a protective vest is an essential function of the job regardless of the regular wear expectations of their individual post or duty assignment. Each CDCRCalifornia Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation peace officer may at any time be assigned to a post or be required to participate in a specific operation wherein vest wear is mandatory.
