Region I, encompasses institutions located in the northern area of California. This region plays a vital role in overseeing secure facility operations, implementing rehabilitation programs, and delivering high-quality healthcare services. Region I include institutions that serve a diverse incarcerated population, offering programs and services tailored to their needs.

Collaborative Approach
Region I operates as a hub for collaboration between three essential divisions:
- Division of Adult Institutions (DAI): Ensures safety and efficient facility operations.
- California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS): Provides comprehensive healthcare, including physical and mental health services.
- Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP): Offers education, vocational training, and rehabilitative programs designed to reduce recidivism.
Together, these divisions work to:
- Streamline leadership oversight and decision-making.
- Deliver consistent healthcare and rehabilitation services across all institutions.
- Ensure staff and incarcerated individuals are supported with the resources and tools necessary for success.
