Wilbert Landrum, retired cook, passes away

Wilbert Landrum, a retired correctional supervising cook, has passed away. The date of his passing was not provided.

He began his career with the department in April 1996 at Salinas Valley State Prison. He remained at the institution until retiring in December 2005.

“Throughout his nine-year career at Salinas Valley, Landrum was a beacon of unwavering commitment and exemplary service, garnering the utmost respect from his colleagues and the population alike,” according to a statement issued by the prison. “His profound dedication not only defined his career but also left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to work alongside him.”

Before joining CDCR, Landrum had a rich history of service, serving honorably in the U.S. Army for over two decades, including time in the Vietnam War. During his military career, he received multiple medals and awards recognizing his exemplary courage and commitment.

He showcased his culinary skills as a sous chef at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey and as a supervising cook at the Monterey County Jail.

“Wilbert’s passing is a profound loss, and he will be dearly missed. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. We extend our deepest condolences to Wilbert Landrum’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” according to the institution.
