Goose, retired K‑9 from CRC Norco

Goose, a retired investigative services unit (ISU) K-9 from California Rehabilitation Center (CRC) at Norco, passed away April 3, 2025.

Goose was a 13-year-old Belgian Malinois. When donated to CDCR, Goose was only 18 months old but showed incredible drive. ISU Officer L. Serrano and Goose reported to the K-9 Academy in June 2013.

After successfully completing the academy, they reported to CRC.

K-9 Goose served the State of California until she retired in 2019. Serrano and Goose made a major impact at CRC, with countless positive discoveries of illicit contraband. They also assisted other institutions across the California and outside agencies.

Officer Serrano and his partner, K-9 Goose, continually made a difference keeping staff and the incarcerated person population safe.

“K-9 Goose was a highly respected partner by staff at CRC, as well as throughout the state, and will be missed by all. Our deepest condolences are extended to the Serrano family and friends as they mourn the loss of their loved one and partner,” according to a CRC statement.
