Ernest Torres, a retired correctional officer from California State Prison-Corcoran, passed away Feb. 7, 2026. He had nearly 31 years of service when he retired in 2022.

On April 8, 1991, Torres reported as a cadet to the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported to California Correctional Institution (CCI) at Tehachapi in May 1991. Nearly two years later, he transferred to California State Prison-Corcoran in March 1993. He remained at the institution as a correctional officer until his retirement in October 2022.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Ernest’s family, loved ones, and friends during this difficult time. Ernest was a treasured employee and friend to many at California State Prison, Corcoran, and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers,” according to the institution.
