CSP‑Sacramento mourns passing of Officer Jason Terwilliger

Jason Terwilliger, a correctional officer at California State Prison (CSP) Sacramento, passed away July 5, 2025. He worked for the department for 11 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Terwilliger began his career with the department in May 2014 as a cadet at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Center in Galt. After graduating the Basic Correctional Officer Academy, he reported to California Health Care Facility in Stockton in September.

In November 2015, he transferred to CSP-Sacramento where he remained until his untimely passing.

“Officer Terwilliger was a cherished partner and friend to many of those who worked around him. He was kind-hearted and truly cared about the wellness of all staff. He was well respected by his peers, subordinates, supervisors, and managers,” according to the prison. “Our sincere condolences are extended to the Terwilliger family, as well as our CSP-Sacramento family during this difficult time.”

Terwilliger previously served in the U.S. Navy from 2000 until retiring from the military in 2020. Four years after retiring, he started his second career with CDCR.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.
