Becoming a peace officer with CDCR means you are joining a family of dedicated, hardworking people responsible for ensuring public safety throughout California.
To apply, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- At least 20 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age at the time of appointment to the Academy
- Possession of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent from a U.S. institution or a California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE) certificate
- Be a citizen of the U.S. or legal permanent resident
- No felony convictions and eligible to own/possess a firearm

Written Examination

The written exam evaluates grammar, spelling, punctuation, reading comprehension, and basic mathematics. You have one hour and forty-five minutes to complete the 52-question, multiple-choice exam.
