Written Examination

The next step in the application process is the written examination. 

You will receive an email within two (2) business days of submitting an online application.

Applicants receive an email invitation to the written examination and must choose one of two options:

  • Online – offers immediate, 24/7 access to the exam
  • In person at one of our three Selection Centers

Those successful at the in-person exam will be Live Scan fingerprinted immediately thereafter and receive instructions on initiating the electronic Statement of Personal History (eSOPH). Those who pass the exam online will be contacted for the next component.

What’s on the Exam?

The written exam evaluates grammar, spelling, punctuation, reading comprehension, and basic mathematics. You have one hour and forty-five minutes to complete the 52-question, multiple-choice exam.

Exam Results

For those who complete the exam in-person results are available immediately upon completing the examination. For those who complete the online examination as directed, official results will be emailed within two (2) business days. Those who pass will receive a rank score for the examination under their current application.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you fail the written examination, or fail to appear within a designated testing cycle, you will be eliminated from this examination and ineligible to reapply for 30 days.
